Art, Hiking, and Healing
Bridgette's Memoir, One Foot in Front of the Other: Art, Hiking, and Healing
From 2017 to present, Bridgette has discovered a new source of inspiration in her life. There comes a time when a woman must pause the demands of motherhood, marriage, and career to explore what truly drives her. In 2017, Bridgette returned to the woods to hike and reconnect with herself.
This journey of self-discovery sparked a movement that has inspired over 18,000 women, leading to the creation of the Houston Women’s Hiking group—a community that embraces women from all walks of life. The group meets women wherever they are in their life journeys. Bridgette's new book, One Foot In Front of the Other: Art, Hiking, and Healing, is a memoir that reflects this experience. It includes stories about her artistic journey, the origins of the Houston Women’s Hiking group, and the healing that has taken place in her life, which has resonated with many women in the community.
“The propelling inspiration to reach out and help others continues in my memoir. Becoming vulnerable through each page, I share my growth as an artist and woman."
The Outdoors and Publishing— It's a Family Affair
The love for the outdoors is contagious; Bridgette refers to herself as a "path pusher." "Hiking can quickly become addictive. Once you discover your tribe and establish a routine, you naturally want to share the experience with others." Her daughter, Christina Sizemore, has joined her on this journey as a co-admin of Houston Women’s Hiking and is the author of two hiking journals. She is currently working on a memoir titled Stronger than Fire, in which she hopes to inspire others by recounting her growth through adversity from a house fire that cost her her home, business and family pet.
The trend of publishing and encouraging others continues in her family. Her granddaughter, Issa Sizemore, has also embarked on this literary journey. She began homeschooling during the pandemic and has participated in her grandmother’s writing class for six years, which has led to her own book, See You in the Woods: Fun Outdoor Adventures for Kids. Issa began the book when she was eight and will be twelve when it is published in 2025.
Bridgette is available for lectures and book signings. Book clubs may find the questions in the back of her book helpful. Invite Bridgette or the entire family of women/ girls to speak at your next event.
