The Photo Shoot For Skirt Magazine
The photo shoot was fun. Georgina Langoria my photographer came with me and took photographs of the photographer taking photographs. They had several women that were there for the photoshoot, all being profiled in that January issue of Skirt, and all amazing women in their own right. Everyone else jumped on the trampoline. I brought the little sculpture of David. The photographer is trying to take the photograph so that David is in the clouds and my hair is blowing. They will cut the photograph and only show chest up. I did not have to jump with David and I was thankful, instead I just held him in my hand as he looked over the edge of the building. Check out the January issue to see what the photographer does!

Jumping or Flying in Downtown Houston?
Received a phone call from Skirt Magazine who wants to create a profile on me for their January issue. Trying to set up the photo shoot they asked if I was available on Friday, which was then switched to this morning. I figured they would be coming to the studio to capture me sculpting, but instead she said she would let me know as soon as she found a trampoline!
???
I guess the magazine has themes for each issue, this issue is on taking chances. I sure know a lot about doing that, especially when it comes to business or creativity. I guess I’ll be jumping. That is o.k. I have had a hankering to jump lately. Actually thought it would be fun to get on a trampoline.
Sometimes There are Things You Just Have to Sculpt!
Sometimes there is artwork inside of you that just has to come out. I have had several of those in my life. Does that make the final piece a masterpiece, or is it just therapeutic? I don’t know if it will be a masterpiece but I do have one of those in me that I am working on. It must come out. I tried to create it around 2 years ago. It was tossed into the clay scrap bin. Maybe I wasn’t ready. Maybe I needed another experience to happen. The new piece will be one of my God’s Word Collectible pieces. The subject is an angel catching an elderly person who is falling. Very personal as my mother is recovering from her fourth fall.
Dare I post a photograph of the roughed in version?
Another Child Goes Home

The sculpture “David” has gone home. It is a tiny piece with the chair measuring about 7″ in height. I just had to put together something to put on the ground so he could be looking at it. This is of course a David pose, at least what I saw him do when I was there.
His mom came and picked him up this week. I made a copy for myself, but I will have to buy a small chair to display my sculpture. I loved working on David. He came to my studio and played, It was a great excitement for me as I miss interacting with little ones. Together we fed my turtle Tilly and we threw pebbles in the pond, giggled and laughed.
Newsboy Goes to Canada!

The best part of the newsboy sculpture is that it consistently becomes an added part of the celebration of history. The Newsgroup in Canada purchased the sculpture to honor those involved in the celebration of the 100th birthday. Here is the copy that they sent, just in case anyone else is interested in the history.

Monday is our 100th Birthday!
The story of the O’Brien family is a great one, as the first pioneer in our business in Canada.
E.H. O’Brien was born in 1886, and left school in Grade 6 to support his family.
Ed O’Brien started his business on the 26th of November, 1907, with the Toronto Daily Star as a part time operation with ten dealers. At the same time, he was working in a cigar factory making cigars. The business resided in a small office on King Street East in Hamilton, with about 150 square feet of floor space which contained a desk and a telephone. Deliveries were made on a child’s wagon.
In 1909 the business had grown to the point that Ed went into it on a full time basis. He rented a horse and bought a wagon for deliveries. The “Hearst” franchise was acquired at this time. In 1914, the “Curtis” franchise was acquired, and in 1916 the first truck was purchased at a cost of about $600.
By 1918 the business had grown with acquisitions of Muncey, Macleans, Consolidated Press and others. In 1921 Ed purchased the F.J. Roy News Company. At this point, Ed was an earlier consolidator, as all independent franchises in existence at that time were acquired.
In 1923, publishers supplied E.H. O’Brien for the Brantford, Ontario market as the former operator had gone out of business. A new company was formed, General News and Novelty Company, which supplied over 150 dealers in Western Ontario.
In 1934, Ed started the National News Company in Ottawa, Ontario, and subsequently purchased the other independent news companies in Ottawa.
Close behind E.H. O’Brien, was H.H. Marshall, who founded a newspaper and magazine distribution business in Halifax in 1908. Harry Marshall was born in 1883 and started his career as a newspaper boy. By the turn of the century Harry had several routes in Halifax, and had opened a men’s apparel store, along with his newspaper business in 1906.
As they say, “The Rest is History!”
Today we are proud to continue in the traditions of E.H. O’Brien, H.H. Marshall and family to supply over 45,000 customers in Canada and the United States. We continue to serve our fine publishers of magazines and books, delivering knowledge daily to millions of Canadians and Americans.
Happy Thanksgiving!
I have made my turkey and eaten what I could. Now I am in my office playing on my new computer. I am thrilled to have the new mac pro. It offers me the opportunity to do more than I have been able to do with just my lap top. Here is the rundown of the new computer plans.
* Radio
Next year I hope to start an online radio podcast. I recently bought the url spotonradio.com. Yes, I will have to have one more website. Oh my! For those of you who don’t know, spot on is a term from the UK that means.
1. correct: absolutely correct or perfectly accurate
2. ideal: exactly what is needed
I’ll let you know when I’m live. This will be a downloadable podcast. For any that are interested. There is still much to put together. I am learning much about mixers, microphones etc. and just filled out my amazon wish list.
The radio show will have two different formats.
Art
I want to share what I have learned about the research for the book that I am finishing titled, “Bringing to life the spirit of the deceased- A Sculptor’s Journey” I will also be interview those doing research in the areas that I am interested, as well as authors and artists. I hope also to put together programs that will help artists promote their work.
Inspirational
This part of the radio show is directly related to the Giftware pieces that I sculpt. (www.godsword.net) I am thrilled to be creating part of this format as something I call generations this is a show that will consist of myself and two woman that I respect. My mom and daughter. Some of the topics- generational faith, forgiveness, changes, even difficult subjects like sex and death. I am thrilled to have this opportunity.
* Video
First video is for the godsword.net website. Others I hope will follow.
Well enough of this playing around. I suppose I need to get back to the downstairs studio and all of the work that is backing up down there. I’m trying to get many jobs out of the studio before the end of the year.
Happy turkey day. There are many things to be thankful for!
blessings and blossoms,
Bridgette
A Wonderful Opportunity! Some New Press, And a New Article
My recent article for Best of Artists has just been released. I loved interviewing Gary Staab. His work is incredible! Check out the article.
I have just seen the article for Sculptural Pursuit. The layout is great. They did a wonderful job.
I’m in Oklahoma right now doing some research on an article for Sculpture Review on technology. I am thrilled to be a part of this article and this magazine. I’ll be writing about Synappsys, and the technology involved with the creating of The American. The editor suggested I write the article in first person, which gives me the opportunity to have my own work in this very prestigious magazine.
My Appearance on the Local FOX Station

Yesterday I was featured on the local fox news cast for my book “Bringing to Life the Spirit of the Deceased-A Sculptor’s Journey.” I am presently looking for a publisher, but because of the topic, the halloween season, and the press release that I sent out they featured me. I wish it were a longer segment and I could get into the research behind the science and the psychic and the science behind the emotion with art. Also about the strange occurrences in the book. I am thankful for the segment, but I have to say they were not very organized. I sent a ton of photographs but they did not use them. Oh well, there are always more appearances to come. There is not much you can do in two minutes. If you would like to see it you hopefully this link will work. ( VIDEO NO LONGER AVAILABLE.) IF not you can go to the FOX website and type in Mongeon in the search. The video should come up.
I look forward to getting my new computer so that I can compile some of these topics in audio podcasts and in video. Maybe that will help the producers see the interesting elements and how they go together.
Ah, I wish for someone with the creativity Like producer Manny Santos. He did the channel 8 segment on me years ago. With the right producer this topic would be extremely interesting! I’m trying to get Manny’s channel 8 segment ready to show on the web. It was really great and he won best artist documentary for it.
By the way, I am not sure where they got the God’s Word piece to show, As I did not give it to them and it did not go with this segment. Yet it kept coming up. For those of you who don’t know, God’s Word is a collectible series that I sculpt. ( please note if you go to the God’s Word web site and it is down it is going under a total face lift this week!)
Another notch in the belt, another thing to put on my media page
A Younger Dick Hathaway

Well a younger Dick Hathaway is coming to life. I have attached the head of the sculpture and I am working on pulling everything all together. I changed the arm, raising it a bit. I was not sure I could do this, because the armature is rebar. Standing on the bench I pulled up. It worked. I also reattached the hand. Dick’s right leg is still removed so that we can get in close the finish some details. I keep moving around the shirt trying to get things just right. Shoulders, left arm and back. Every now and again I look up at the face and change a thing here and there.
The Satchel is Almost Complete
The satchel is almost complete. The books, with their titles are carved and even the sheet of paper on the top of the satchel has been done.
It reads,
Dear Richard Hathaway,
May all that come after you emanate your love of family, history, education, and philanthropy. With great appreciation your family, friends, colleagues and students.
The elephant and feather are pouring out of the bag. Funny thing is that I have an irresistible urge to put in something round next to the elephant. I don’t know if this is a design thing or an intuitive thing. I don’t know why a round thing? Either coins or marbles. Why would I pick either one of these? I don’t know. Anyone have a clue? Anyone know anything about either coins or marbles relating to Dick Hathaway?
My apprentice needs to do some work on this satchel yet. Not much just clean up some areas, but she is busy smoothing out the Dick’s shirt If we could get it done we could actually put this satchel into the mold process. Then on to the bronze.
